Mapping Etcetera #1

Picture

These seven pieces were created to accompany an exhibit of paintings and digital prints with the same name, which were shown at Gallery 1313 in Toronto in 2006. The process for building up the sound pieces started with improvisation on various instruments (guitar, synth, found objects, harmonica), which were then sampled, looped and processed. Paintings and digital imagery by Charles Hackbarth.

Mapping Etcetera #2

Picture

The second movement is very quiet, with micro-sound-activity.
Maybe this is what bugs listen to at their discos?

Mapping Etcetera #3

Picture

Frogs and crickets battle it out for sonic supremacy.
Their only weapons are their voices and a touch-tone phone.

Mapping Etcetera #5

This piece is built around an improvisation my buddy Charles Gagnon
and I did back in 1988 on prepared guitar.
